The Counseling and Healthcare Center

The Counseling and Healthcare Center consists of four specialized branches of Education and Research, Family Relations, Occupation and Entrepreneurship Counseling, and Academic Promotion. The center's activities are presented in two areas: Psychological Services (for clients) and Assistance Services (for help-seekers). The center place includes the office, library and research room, individual counseling rooms, group counseling rooms, and a seminar hall for holding workshops. Student associations, active in counseling and guiding area, include Mental Wellness Assistants Association, Health Assistants Association and Social Harm Prevention Association. It is worth mentioning that Counseling and Health Center of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology selected the Student Counseling and Healthcare Center of UB as the Best Student Counseling Center among all the universities throughout the country in 2018 and for the second consecutive year.

 

Aims of the Center

  1. Reducing Students' psychological problems (coming from: being away from the former living environment, family and friends and their lessened support and control; spending time with friends and in the dormitories; being in an educational status different from their past and experiencing a critical age period),
  2. Helping students adapt themselves to the university environment (including classes and exams, friends, faculty and staff) through the provision of psychological support,
  3. Preventing possible future psychological and academic problems,
  4. Reducing the effect of various problems through financial supports, medical treatments and the like,
  5. Helping students with making decisions about education, marriage, occupation and the like,
  6. Helping students with early prevention of psychological problems by holding workshops, lectures, question and answer sessions, conferences and camps, distributing brochures, journals, books and other educational and self-help materials to improve their knowledge and skills,
  7. Identifying the crisis that students may be exposed to,
  8. Offering secondary prevention of psychological disorders such as intervening, treating and reducing the duration of the disorder and providing the necessary support; holding national projects on examining mental health and research projects on epidemiology; identifying at-risk students and supporting them by employing assistants and counselors at the dormitories and the Student Counseling and Healthcare Center,
  9. Introducing the third level prevention of disorder development through providing support services, rehabilitation and assistance, sports classes, hospitalization, environmental changes such as changing educational and dormitory settings and supportive psychotherapy and introducing them to the psychiatrist.
